Andy Warhol’s Polaroid Portraits

Andy Warhol was best known for his famous silkscreen portraits, which were his bread and butter throughout the 1970s and ’80s. Just as iconic as those paintings were his portraits of the bold-faced names of the period. Celebrities, musicians, fashion moguls and athletes of the time stood before the lens of Warhol’s Polaroid Big Shot camera.

An upcoming exhibition at New York’s Danziger Gallery, “Andy Warhol: Photographer,” showcases photographs taken by the pop-art master, many rarely seen by the general public, including his Polaroid portraits as well as his lesser-known 8×10 black and white photos. The show will run from March 1 to April 21, 2012.
