Gerard Malanga, Andy’s most important associate, worked with him in The Factory from 1963 to 1970. Gerard assisted Andy in all his creative endeavors during what many consider the artist’s most prolific period.

“He [Andy Warhol] familiarizes me with how he’s been working with silkscreens… The image – a portrait of Elizabeth Taylor, pink face, red lips, green eye shadow, painted in by hand with liquitex over a hand-painted silver background… A painting, simply titled Liz, 1963 (40 x 40 inches), the first of hundreds of paintings we were to silkscreen together.” – Gerard Malanga
